Liu Xi, a doctor from Chengdu, Sichuan province, arrived in Democratic Republic of the Congo for a one-year peacekeeping mission on Wednesday, leaving behind his wife and triplet daughters less than 2 years old.
Before he left home on Monday, he promised to send his wife one yuan (15 cents) each day through WeChat.
The triplets will see Dad when Mom receives the 365th one-yuan note, he said.
Liu is one of the 43-member medical team from Sichuan which will build a hospital with 50 beds covering about 6,000 people in Congo.
It is the second time Liu is on a peacekeeping mission. Six years ago, he was on a mission in Lebanon.
