6. White Snake Legend
White Snake Legend is based on a traditional Chinese legend that has been adapted in many plays, TV shows and films. It tells a love story between a beautiful woman, Bai Suzhen, who was a white snake but was transformed into a human, and a young man named Xu Xian.
The story is now counted as one of China's four great folktales, the others being Lady Meng Jiang, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, and The Cowherd and the Weaving Maid (Niulang Zhinu).
