Guangzhou conventions for experts, scholars attract 3,500 visitors
Overseas experts, seeking cooperation and investment, brought more than 2,000 scientific and technological projects to the 2017 Convention on Exchange of Overseas Talents and the 19th Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology, which ended on Thursday.
More than 3,500 visitors from around the world attended the two events, which opened on Wednesday, said Huang Yuanfei, an inspector with the Guangzhou bureau of human resources and social security.
Most of the projects involved information technology, artificial intelligence, new energy, environmental protection, biomedicine, finance and management, which Guangdong provincial authorities have prioritized for development, according to Huang.
"The two events have become the largest platform that helps experts from abroad start businesses or attract cooperation and investment in the mainland," Huang said on Thursday.
In addition to talent recruitment, organizers also arranged forums, lectures, seminars, field tours, project introductions and cooperative achievement demonstrations, he said.
Meanwhile, the annual events have played an important role in helping Guangzhou and the whole of Guangdong attract expertise from around the world, Huang said.
The southern province is eager to attract more overseas expertise, technology and projects to help ensure sustainable growth, he added.
