Nearly 1,000 families saved through retired judge's mediation

Xie Maoxiang, a retired judge from Hengdong, Hunan province, has saved nearly 1,000 ruptured families during his 14 years of voluntary mediation.
The 74-year-old former deputy chief judge at the local court offered to do pre-trial mediation work without pay after retiring in 2003.
During these 14 years, he insisted on bicycling for 40 minutes to work every weekday and has managed to mediate thousands of divorce cases.
