British man breaks South Pole record

While many people were celebrating on Christmas Day, Scott Sears, 27, was wrapping up a 1,130-kilometer, 38-day solo journey through brutally cold temperatures to reach the South Pole, unassisted and unsupported.

The brother-in-law of tennis star Andy Murray pulled a 100 kg sledge in temperatures which dropped to minus 60 C during the trek.

The British army officer, who made the arduous journey to raise funds for the Gurkha Welfare Trust, reached the South Pole and claimed that he's the youngest person ever to do so, though Guinness has yet to offer its final seal of approval.

"MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE SOUTH POLE! Absolutely chuffed to pieces," he wrote on his blog, where he documented his unassisted adventure.
