Currently, more than 3,000 residents are living in the houses, while most others have moved to new apartments thanks to economic and tourism development.
As the temperature inside the subterranean buildings stays higher than 10 degrees centigrade in winters and around 20 degrees centigrade during summers, people call these houses "natural air-conditioners and thermostat dwellings."
