"I am so glad to know that my Chinese name 卡麗樂 has such beautiful meanings," said Kalil, a girl from a refugee camp invited by the organizers to attend the event.

Seven-year-old Emil was fascinated by Chinese seals. He said in Germany, seals and stamps were not treated as special, as they were in China.

"It really surprises me that children can understand so naturally, even better than adults, the traditional paintings and tools from a far faraway land, which has a very different culture from their own country," Sebastian said.

Every year since October 2012, museums, theaters galleries and studios in Berlin offer different programs for children. The Cultural Month of Children celebrates all imaginable forms of art and culture. Children get to sing operas, make Halloween costumes, shoot their own films, learn Chinese and engage in other cultural activities.

The writer is Mao Jing, a Chinese who is now living in Berlin
