Beijing take Chinese Women's Volleyball Super League crown
BEIJING - Beijing lifted the trophy of the Chinese Women's Volleyball Super League for the first time as they beat defending champions Tianjin 3-1 (25-21, 25-15, 20-25 and 25-20), sweeping the best-of-five finals 3-0 here on Saturday.
After winning the first two away and home games, hosts Beijing led 3-0 and surged to 12-7 before Tianjin called their first time-out. Although wasting seven set points, Beijing still took the first set 25-21 with a spike by Liu Xiaotong.
The second set became an easy case as Beijing won it 25-15. However, Tianjin bounced back to take the third 25-20.
From 11-all tie in the fourth, Beijing rushed towards 16-12 and surged to 24-17. Then Tianjin rescued three championship points, but could do nothing more with a spike from Margaret Rachel.
Rachel, the MVP of the Game, got 26 points while Liu pocketed 19 points. Spiker Li Yingying claimed a team-high of 24 points for Tianjin.
