The Navy begins dispatching warships to conduct anti-piracy escort missions off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden. To date, the Navy has sent 32 groups of ships to participate in the UN-led operation.

The Navy stages a parade in the Yellow Sea to mark the 60th anniversary of its founding.
Twenty-one warships from 14 other nations take part in the parade, which is inspected by President Hu Jintao.
