Xi's remarks at symposium published

President says it's necessary to give united front full play, build consensus
Non-Communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and people without party affiliation have much to do in pursuing the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and modernizing the country's system and capacity for governance, said Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
He made the remark at a symposium held by the CPC Central Committee to solicit opinions from non-CPC members on the draft of a document adopted at a key Party meeting that concluded in Beijing on Thursday.
The document includes the CPC Central Committee's decisions on some major issues concerning how to uphold and improve the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and advance the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance.
Xi presided over the symposium held on Sept 25 and delivered a speech.
Xi said it was necessary to give full play to the strengths of the united front and build broad consensus in upholding and improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and advancing the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance.
The Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, held at the historic juncture for realizing the two centenary goals, will make a political declaration on upholding and improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and advancing the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance, he said.
Xi added that China's system and capacity for governance are a crystallization of the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and its enforcement capability.
Xi said he hoped the participants of the symposium can focus on goals and tasks for the development of the CPC and the country's undertaking in the new era, make full use of their individual advantages and give forward-looking, strategic and workable advice and suggestions.
At the symposium, leaders of the non-Communist parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, as well as representatives of people without party affiliation, voiced their support for the draft decision.
They also put forward advice and suggestions in such areas as strengthening the CPC leadership, enhancing the building of a law-based government and pushing forward the formulation and implementation of the country's major development strategies and medium and long-term plans.
