Phrases, lines and stories from classic Chinese literature are still being used by ordinary Chinese, guiding people in moral conduct and inspiring them in every aspect of work and life.

Chinese Classics Retold, an exhibition at The Military Museum of Chinese People's Revolution in Beijing through Sunday, shows lianhuanhua paintings which illustrate a selection of verses and stories from classic texts that have influenced common Chinese for centuries.

Lianhuanhua, or the Chinese form of picture books containing sequential drawings, is a popular style for entertaining and also educating since its invention in the early 20th century.

The exhibition gathers lianhuanhua works created by 80 artists nationwide in the past two years.

A variety of techniques such as oil painting, watercolor and classic Chinese ink painting were used to explain core values, such as integrity, persistence and loyalty, conveyed in Chinese cultural traditions.
