Thirteen medical experts from hospitals in East China's Shandong province and 15 medical experts from Texas Medical Center in the US shared their experiences on preventing and controlling the spread of novel coronavirus, as well as treating COVID-19 patients, via a video platform on Friday.

Experts from both sides discussed more than 20 issues related to COVID-19 prevention and treatment, including treatment of patients in critical situations, screening patients, quarantine measures and the functions of traditional Chinese medicine.

Kou Zengqiang, who works at the Shandong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, shared Shandong's experience in dealing with the disease and how the province responded in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Medical experts from Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, who recently returned from aiding Central China's Hubei province in treating COVID-19 patients, shared their frontline experiences in dealing with the disease, including early diagnosis and treatment, how to reduce the mortality rate and how medical staff protect themselves from being infected.

"We will keep up communication with our counterparts in Texas to exchange experiences and make efforts in jointly combating the virus," said Chen Baiwei, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Province.
