Should animals be kept in captivity?

Editor's note: Two tigers that escaped from their cage after attacking a zookeeper were shot dead on Tuesday in a peacock valley in Nanyang city, Central China's Henan province. The zookeeper later died in hospital and after the attempts to round up the escaped tigers failed, they were shot dead to ensure public safety. Are there any better options than killing them? What should be done to prevent such incidents from happening again? Should wild animals be kept in zoos? Readers share their opinions.

Zoos became outdated a long time ago. They have become like circuses for entertainment. These captive animals are rare now in the wild, we should protect them and foster a better way to show the huge diversity of our planet … it's not just us humans living on this home we call earth.
