The city of Shenzhen in South China's Guangdong province on Sunday reported two new asymptomatic cases of the novel coronavirus, local authorities said.

The pair is a married couple, with the husband, aged 52, working at Yantian port, Chang Juping, deputy health chief of the city, said at a press conference on Sunday evening. The two have been hospitalized and are now in stable condition.

By late Sunday, 13 persons were identified as asymptomatic cases since the coronavirus cluster was first detected in Yantian district's port area on May 21.

Gene sequencing has found that the virus involved in the previously detected 11 cases belongs to a coronavirus variant that appeared in the UK. The genetic sequencing results of the latest two cases are yet to be released.
