SEVILLE -- Spain were held to a 0-0 draw by Sweden in their opening game in the European Championships after their traditional problem of turning possession and chances into goals once again reared its head in a game they dominated virtually from start to finish.

The Spanish had around 80 percent of the ball in the game and had the Swedes pinned back in their half and even in their own penalty area, but despite 17 shots - 5 of which were on target, they failed to beat Swedish keeper Robin Olsen.

Olsen produced excellent reflex saves to deny Dani Olmo and Gerard Moreno, who looked set to score in the last minute, while Alvaro Morata put the ball wide when clean through on goal.

The Swedes only created two chances, but could have won the game as Alexander Isak's effort late in the first half was deflected onto the post by Marcos Llorente. In the second half Isak then set up Marcos Berg who hit the ball over when it looked easier to score.
