Global lawmakers congratulate China on Winter Olympics


With the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics around the corner, global lawmakers spoke highly of China's efforts to stage a simple, safe and splendid event as scheduled, and recognized the hope and cohesion the Games bring to the world.
More than 30 lawmakers from 20 countries expressed opposition to politicizing the Olympic Games and delivered their good wishes for the Winter Olympics that will open on Friday during a program broadcast on CGTN on Saturday.
Filatova Irina Anatolyevna, member of the Russian State Duma, said China and Russia are friendly neighbors with extensive cooperation in various fields and the significance of their mutual trust has been demonstrated through sports.
Samart Kaewmeechai, vice-President of the Pheu Thai Party from Thailand, expressed confidence China will be able to deliver an Olympics to the highest standards and win the support of athletes from all over the world.
It's admirable the Games will make sustainability a core concept and a foundational principle and the event will be run green as a standard to help the global environment, he said.
Mushahid Hussain Sayed, chairman of Pakistani Senate's Defense Committee and senator from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, said given the COVID-19 pandemic, hosting the event demonstrates firm determination to bring cultures and countries together on one platform and Pakistan rejects any form of boycott.
Orlathay Santikhongkha, Central Committee Member of the Lao Front for National Construction, said the Winter Olympics is like a bond that unites people, bringing people closer together in contribution to world peace and mutual understanding.
Claudio Romero, member of the Buenos Aires City Council in Argentina, said China has always been a friendly host for the rest of the world, which is what promotes China-Argentina relations and the sister city friendship between Beijing and the city of Buenos Aires.
Thanks to Chinese people's active fight against the pandemic, we can witness the Winter Olympics as scheduled, Romero said.
