Beijing has established sufficient government reserves for daily goods for the public and strengthened its management to ensure that they can be timely used when needed, a senior official said on Monday.

Authorities will strengthen price monitoring in the market, "especially wholesale markets and major chain supermarkets", said Zhao Weidong, deputy head of the city's commerce bureau, at a news conference on Monday afternoon.

He said Beijing will offer free nucleic acid tests for all truck drivers who deliver daily goods to the city and will ensure smooth traffic flow.

Beijing reported four new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases from 4 pm Saturday to 4 pm Monday.

On Saturday, Beijing raised one residential area in Chaoyang district to high-risk designation for COVID-19, with more than eight local cases and one infection cluster reported in the area in the previous 14 days, said Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control. It is now the only high-risk area in the capital.

Beijing is continuing its strict dynamic zero-COVID approach to deal with the current outbreak.

Pang reminded people to be aware of potential risks when purchasing items online from countries with epidemic outbreaks and to disinfect packages with 75 percent alcohol spray.
