RIO DE JANEIRO -- Former Brazil national team boss Mano Menezes is close to taking charge of Brazilian Serie A club Internacional, according to media reports in the South American country.

Menezes' representatives held talks with Internacional officials on Monday and an agreement could be reached by the end of the week, Globo Esporte reported.

Internacional began searching for a new manager last Friday when Alexander Medina was sacked after a poor start to the domestic season.

Menezes has been out of work since parting ways with Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr last September.

The 59-year-old has had spells in charge of Gremio, Corinthians, Flamengo, Cruzeiro, Shandong Luneng and Palmeiras, among other clubs, during a coaching career spanning more than two decades. He was the manager of Brazil's national team from July 2010 until November 2012.
