A press conference for the new theater production Tan Xinpei (1902-1908) was held on March 31 at Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center.

The production is written by Wang Yongqing and directed by Wang and Yang Zhaoheng, with veteran Peking Opera performers Tan Xiaozeng and Yan Guixiang, as well as professor Fu Jin from the National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts as the artistic adviser.

It centers on the life experience of Chinese Peking Opera master Tan Xinpei from 1902 to 1908, during which time he appeared in China's first film Dingjun Mountain in 1905, presenting the stories of Peking Opera performers and the milieu toward the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Performer and executive producer Tan Zhengyan sang the theme song at the press conference.

The event also marked the first release of tickets for the production, which will premiere at the Grand Theater of National Culture Palace in Beijing on May 5.
