Tam commented that Jiang's work "transcended boundaries, discussing concepts of connectivity and openness, which are important issues of equality, indicating that contemporary art still holds relevance and necessity in an increasingly isolated and fragmented world we all experience."

Tam also argued that the works of the shortlisted artists and collectives reaffirmed that contemporary photography is an art form not just about what is photographed but also about transforming what we see into a critical interpretation of the world we are living in combined with conscious artistic choices.
