The 2024 Understanding China Conference was held from December 2 to 4 in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province. In an interview with China Daily, Liu Zongyi, director of the South Asia Research Center at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, noted that in collaboration with Dhaka University of Bangladesh, they established the Centre for China Studies (CCS) in Dhaka to introduce the concept of Chinese-style modernization to scholars and the wide public from South Asian countries and enhance mutual understanding.

Liu shared that during a visit to China, youth delegations from South Asian countries observed firsthand the stark contrast between the reality of China and its portrayal in Western media. They expressed that they no longer trust the distorted reports they had previously received.
