At least 10 perish in landslide
Ten people were confirmed dead and 19 were still missing as of Monday, following a landslide on Feb 8 in Junlian county, Yibin city, Sichuan province, according to local authorities.
The disaster happened in Jinping village, burying 10 residential houses and a production building. It also impacted more than 100 hectares of farmland.
More than 3,000 rescuers from various departments, including the People's Liberation Army, the armed police, firefighters, public security department, transportation section, and medical services participated in the rescue, according to the emergency command center, CCTV reported.
The rescuers were aided by sniffer dogs, drones, life-detection devices, and large machinery.
Two trapped individuals were rescued and are now out of danger. A total of 767 residents from 139 households were relocated, the command center said.
The county has initiated post-disaster reconstruction, including site selection and planning, and design of residential areas, and is striving to restore local people's way of life, officials added.
