The largest low-altitude aircraft wind tunnel in South China has finished its first round of trial operation on Wednesday in Nansha district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, addressing a gap in aerodynamic testing for aerodynamic performance of low altitude aircraft in the region.

It is the first professional experimental facility in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area dedicated to aerodynamic research on low-altitude aircraft, playing a key role in further promoting the development of the drone industry.

Its operation marks a breakthrough in the verification capability of key technologies in the low-altitude economic industry chain, according to a statement released by the Guangdong Aerospace Research Academy, the platform's founder.

The platform has finished building the power section and conducted the first round of wind resistance testing service trial on Wednesday.

It simulates a level-7 wind environment (wind speeds of 13.9-17.1m/s) for the UniDroneE900 multi-rotor drone and UniVTOL V2200 composite wing aircraft, as well as conducts wind resistance performance verification under sustained wind, gust and tangential wind scenarios.

The test has verified the platform's actual support capability for the low-altitude economy industry, said the statement.

The platform will focus on serving strategic industries, including eVTOL, drone logistics, and flying cars, in the GBA, promoting the rapid commercialization of technology in the years to come, the statement said.

Construction of the entire platform is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025, and it will begin whole operation in the third quarter of the year, it said.
