Haimen fuels Nantong's soccer prowess
The 2025 Jiangsu Football City League has captured national attention, sparking vibrant discussions across social media platforms. As of June 1, Nantong's team has emerged as the clear frontrunner, maintaining an undefeated streak with three consecutive victories — a remarkable achievement among the league's 13 competing cities.
At the heart of Nantong's success lies the Haimen Codion Football Club, which plays a key role in the region's athletic achievements. The club's overwhelming contribution of 35 players, represents nearly 90 percent of Nantong's roster. This participation underscores the strength of the city's soccer program and highlights Haimen's exceptional youth development system.
The Codion's story began in May 2011 when entrepreneur Li Taizhen made an extraordinary commitment, investing 60 percent of his shoe company's annual profits to establish the Codion Youth Football Club in collaboration with Haimen's sports authorities. The club broke ground by offering free training for promising players aged 8 to 14.
Through persistent efforts to overcome challenges, including limited facilities, financial constraints, and coaching shortages, Codion has become a cornerstone of China's youth soccer development. The club's achievements include launching Haimen's inaugural professional team and nurturing 160 players for various Chinese youth national teams.
The current league season kicked off on May 10, with the final set for Nov 2. Soccer enthusiasts anticipate the fifth round clash between Nantong and Suqian at the Haimen Base of Nantong Football Training Center on June 29, where another exciting chapter in the region's soccer legacy awaits.
