According to local authorities, the city experiences an average of 103 foggy days annually — with some years surpassing 148 foggy days. With an average humidity exceeding 80 percent throughout the year, the city exudes a captivating misty charm.
Experts at the Chongqing Meteorological Research Center noted there has been a noticeable decrease in the occurrence of foggy days in urban areas of Chongqing in recent years, attributed to the escalating urban heat island and dry island effects resulting from extensive urbanization. This shift has been further influenced by the city's transition from coal to natural gas in industrial and domestic fuel consumption. However, foggy conditions remain prevalent in the surrounding regions.
