Guangzhou man detained for allegedly impersonating serviceman and State Council counselor
A man surnamed Yu has been placed under criminal compulsory measures in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, on suspicion of fraud and impersonating a serviceman.
According to a statement released by the Baiyun Branch of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau on Tuesday, Yu, 73, was detained last Thursday for further investigation.
Police said that upon learning from online sources that Yu was allegedly impersonating high-profile identities — including a counselor of the State Council and a veteran of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950–53) — to deceive and swindle, the Baiyun branch immediately set up a special task force to launch a thorough investigation.
The statement added that the case remains under investigation, and no further details have yet been disclosed.
