Xi congratulates president of Nauru on his re-election
President Xi Jinping has congratulated David Adeang on his re-election as president of Nauru, and vowed to promote bilateral ties.
In a congratulatory message sent to Adeang on Friday, Xi said that since the two countries resumed their diplomatic ties, the bilateral relationship has made significant progress, with fruitful cooperation in various fields benefiting the people of both countries.
He expressed his appreciation that the Nauruan government led by Adeang adheres to the one-China principle.
Noting that he attaches great importance to the development of China-Nauru relations, Xi expressed his willingness to work with Adeang to elevate the bilateral relationship to new heights to deliver greater benefits to the people of both countries.
Adeang, who has served as Nauru's president since October 2023 and as a member of parliament since 2001, was re-elected as Nauruan president for a second term on Oct 11, Xinhua News Agency reported.
China and Nauru resumed diplomatic relations in January 2024.
