President Xi Jinping has always attached great importance to ecological conservation. Following in his footsteps across China, let's explore his vision of harmony between humanity and nature.

On Nov 12, 2020, Xi visited a riverside district along a section of the Yangtze River in Nantong city, East China's Jiangsu province, to inspect the local environmental efforts. This riverside area is ecologically significant, and the adjacent section of the river serves as a key water source for urban development.

During conversations with local residents enjoying leisure time by the water, Xi noted that the area has undergone a transformative ecological change compared with what he saw during his first visit in 1978.

"The dirty and messy places in the past have been turned into green belts in parks now," Xi said. He added that living in such a city brings people happiness — and that this happy life is achieved through the hard work of all.

Xi emphasized that in advancing modernization characterized by harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature, more importance should be given to protecting the urban environment and ensuring a better quality of economic development and people's lives.
