China has been mediating in talks between Cambodia and Thailand and hopes the two sides will end hostilities and restore peace as soon as possible, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Monday.

As a friend and close neighbor to both Cambodia and Thailand, China calls on the two sides to act to safeguard peace and stability along their borders and protect the fundamental interests of their peoples, Lin Jian told a daily news conference.

According to Lin, Deng Xijun, the Foreign Ministry's special envoy for Asian affairs, is currently shuttling between the two Southeast Asian nations to facilitate mediation.

China will disclose more information about Deng's efforts in due course, Lin said, adding that China has been promoting a resolution to the conflict "in its own way".

China will continue to actively promote peace talks and play a constructive role in de-escalating the situation, Lin added.
