Ultra-clean facilities and smart reactors are continuously producing bio-based materials at the Synthetic Biology Industrial Eco-Park in Shanxi Transformation and Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone, marking a significant shift for Shanxi province – a traditional energy powerhouse – as it transitions from resource dependency to future industries.

The future industries within the Shanxi Transformation and Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone gain strong development momentum.

Shanxi's strategic planning began in 2021 with the release of China's first provincial "14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25)" for future industries, outlining 25 specific fields and establishing a comprehensive cultivation system.

By early December 2025, the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee's "15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30)" recommendations highlighted key areas such as quantum technology and bio-manufacturing, and proposed innovative regulation and investment mechanisms.

Various industries are witnessing significant breakthroughs: quantum measurement technology is being applied in resource exploration; Cathay Biotech is producing green products through "cell factories"; and silicon carbide projects are expanding aerospace information capabilities.

Shanxi is also establishing national innovation platforms, creating angel investment funds, and refining talent policies to foster a robust innovation ecosystem.

The province is now strategically positioning itself in the future industrial race, transitioning from "prospering through coal" to "developing through intelligence", serving as a dynamic example of proactive transformation in resource-dependent regions.
