Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will pay a four-day official visit to China beginning on Wednesday, Beijing confirmed on Monday.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, who announced the visit, said China attaches great importance to the visit, which will be the first China trip made by a Canadian prime minister in eight years.

The steady and sound development of China-Canada ties is in line with the interests of both countries and their people, and contributes to world peace and development, Mao said.

"The Chinese side looks forward to using the visit as an opportunity to strengthen dialogue and communication with the Canadian side, strengthen political mutual trust, expand pragmatic cooperation, handle differences properly and address each other's concerns," Mao added.
