Dunhuang's cultural creative sector has achieved remarkable success by transforming its rich cultural resources into commercial assets.
To date, Dunhuang's product lineup has reached 6,000 items, a 50 percent year-on-year increase, with sales up 20 percent this year. Recognized as a national cultural industry demonstration base, it provides a replicable model for the revitalization of traditional culture.
The success is driven by a focus on cultural essence and innovation. Five specialized cultural spaces support this approach by developing products across diverse areas, including stationery, traditional crafts, refined collectibles, and technology-enhanced experiences.
Among these, creative surprise boxes have emerged as a breakout hit, frequently selling out both online and in stores and serving as a major growth engine.
To expand its reach, Dunhuang has entered into licensing partnerships. Online collaborations incorporate its motifs into popular social media platforms, while co-branded products with consumer brands bring its art into daily life.
Initiatives like design competitions and a dedicated incubation base further stimulate creativity across the industry chain.
Moving forward, Dunhuang seeks to further integrate culture with technology and commerce, creating distinctive products that sustainably share its millennia-old heritage.
