The Shanghai Radiopharmaceutical Concept Verification Alliance was launched on Tuesday in the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in the city's Pudong New Area.

Spearheaded by the Academy for Clinical Innovation and Translation of Shanghai, the new consortium aims to accelerate the clinical translation of next-generation radiopharmaceuticals.

The alliance brings together a powerful network of medical institutions, universities, research institutes and industry partners. Its primary mission is to overcome critical bottlenecks in early-stage development, specifically the fragmentation of verification resources and incomplete data that often slow down drug innovation.

To tackle these systemic challenges, the alliance is constructing a centralized verification platform for radiopharmaceutical clinical translation. This platform will operate under market mechanisms and provide end-to-end services. These include crucial early-stage support like target validation and the production of high-quality, GMP-like samples for preclinical studies.

Tuesday's launch ceremony was held during the 2026 Shanghai Radiopharmaceutical Concept Verification Ecosystem Seminar, part of the broader Zhangjiang Pharma Valley Radiopharmaceutical Industry International Exchange Conference. The event drew international experts who shared insights on global trends and advancements.

Domestic specialists from Shanghai's leading hospitals, academic institutions and research centers contributed to panel discussions, delving into cutting-edge areas such as targeted alpha therapy and radiotheranostics — a field that combines diagnosis and therapy using radioactive drugs.

While a number of project agreements were signed at Monday's launch, attendees also held discussions on formalizing the structure of the concept verification service system, establishing collaboration models and defining profit-sharing mechanisms.
