The efforts made by China and Canada to properly address bilateral trade issues are not directed against any third party, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Monday.

Guo made the remarks following reports that Washington threatened to impose 100 percent tariffs on Canadian goods if Ottawa finalizes a new trade deal with Beijing.

China believes that all countries should handle their relations with others following the spirit of win-win and cooperation, instead of a zero-sum game and confrontation, Guo told a regular news conference.

The fact that China and Canada agreed to advance the new strategic partnership?and made specific arrangements on bilateral trade issues embodies the spirit of equality, openness, peace, cooperation and win-win, Guo said.

The developments were in line with the shared interests of the people of both countries and contributed to peace and the development of the world, Guo added.
