The Ganzi Tibetan autonomous prefecture in Sichuan province launched a lifetime travel pass policy on Wednesday to attract more tourists from around the world to its scenic areas.

The policy, claimed to be the first of its kind in China, features two types of lifetime passes: one for single scenic spots and the other for a group of 14 attractions. The latter, priced at 317 or 318 yuan ($46), grants holders lifetime access to the prefecture's 14 top scenic spots, including Hailuogou Glacier and Daocheng Yading, according to Feng Fagui, governor of the prefecture.

Single-entry tickets to all of these sites would normally cost a combined 1,091 yuan, Feng said.

Sales began immediately after a launch ceremony via official channels, including a WeChat mini-program and Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok). Travel agencies from source markets jumped on the opportunity and purchased 600,000 lifetime passes.

The prefecture also appointed 150 photographers as ambassadors, granting them free entry to all scenic areas. In return, they are expected to share the beauty of Ganzi with the world through their works.

Liu Hong, director of Ganzi's culture, radio, television, and tourism bureau, said the move is expected to help the prefecture establish itself as an international eco-cultural tourism destination.

Last year, the prefecture received 260,000 tourist visits, Liu said.
