The fourth session of the 14th Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the city's political advisory body, opened on Monday.

While delivering a work report, Hu Wenrong, chairman of the CPPCC Shanghai committee, said the functions of the city's practice site for whole-process people's democracy were further expanded in 2025. The site welcomed 440 international visitors in the past year, many of whom expressed admiration for Shanghai's democratic practices, noting its potential as a model for other countries.

Last year, the practice site hosted 143 consultative meetings, with participation by CPPCC members at the national, city and district levels, totaling 3,861 visits. In addition, 274 domestic groups and 948 students from various educational levels engaged with the practice site.

The main focus of the CPPCC Shanghai committee's work over the past year included stabilizing economic growth, Hu said. Nine research teams were organized to delve into 12 key sectors, including high-end manufacturing, real estate, and foreign investment and trade. The teams visited 173 enterprises to gather insights and feedback, which were promptly communicated to the Party and the government, facilitating the resolution of related issues.

Throughout the year, the city's CPPCC committee received 1,269 proposals, with 1,046 formally accepted after review. These proposals offered constructive, targeted, and feasible recommendations aimed at deepening reforms and advancing Shanghai's modernization efforts.
