The historic Shihu Garden in Weifang welcomed a group of international students on Jan 24 for a firsthand look at Chinese New Year traditions. The event provided a hands-on introduction to local customs as the city prepares for the Spring Festival.

Throughout the day, students participated in activities like writing Chinese character fu for good luck, crafting dough figurines, and creating copper rubbings. True to Weifang's reputation as the "kite capital of the world", the program also included a session on the intricate art of kite-making.

This engaging experience offered students a deeper connection to the cultural heritage of Chinese New Year as they joined the local community in celebrating the upcoming Year of the Horse. By practicing these ancient crafts, the participants were able to take home a piece of local history and a more personal understanding of the festival's spirit.
