Peking Union inaugurated its new center for complex and rare diseases in August, expanding its space by 550 square metres and adding five consultation rooms. China's first specialized inpatient ward for rare diseases at PUMCH admitted 565 patients in 2025, representing a more than twofold year-on-year increase. Among patients admitted without a confirmed diagnosis, the discharge diagnosis rate reached 67 percent, with patient satisfaction consistently achieving full marks.

Peking Union's multidisciplinary team (MDT) for rare diseases, also China's first national-level rare disease consultation platform, has conducted 330 consultations since its establishment on the sixth international Rare Disease Day in 2019. Over the past year, 48 rare disease MDT sessions were broadcast live nationwide, attracting thousands of online viewers in hundreds of hospitals.

Peking Union has invited researchers from the national key laboratories of rare diseases and institutes of clinical medicine to join its ward rounds and held regular case discussion, ensuring that clinicians work with geneticists and basic medical scientists in tackling complex challenges.
