The MSC VALENTINA has departed from the Haicang Port Area of Xiamen Port bound for Chile, carrying 30 containerized lithium battery energy storage systems — the port's largest shipment of its kind since the beginning of the Year of the Horse.

Energy storage containers are like giant "power banks". As integrated, mobile storage solutions, they offer large capacity and high power, making them vital to the global green transition. Classified as Class 9 dangerous goods, they pose risks like thermal runaway and significant firefighting challenges. With tight post-holiday shipping schedules and harsh winter weather, ensuring their safe transport is no small task.

To ensure the smooth delivery of this batch, relevant authorities rolled out a first-of-its-kind safety mechanism for shipping energy storage containers, with a clear responsibility checklist covering every step — from assembly to port entry, storage, loading, and transport.

As a key export hub for new energy products on China's southeast coast, Xiamen Port has safely and efficiently facilitated the export of 110 TEUs of energy storage containers since the beginning of 2026, helping power the global green transition.
