Over a decade since its launch in 2015, the Young Shoots Project — a program initiated by the China Film Directors' Guild to recognize young talent — will make its debut in Hong Kong, holding a series of collaborative activities with local arts organizations from April 2 to 4.

Guided by the China Film Administration, the sector's top regulator, the activities are supported by the Chanel fashion house. They are scheduled to invite British film curator and writer Tony Rayns and Hong Kong filmmaker Stanley Kwan to serve as speakers for an expert-led session.

In addition, the event will screen a selection of short films produced by talented young people about the project and hold two other in-depth conversations. One features Ruby Yang, an Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and director of the University of Hong Kong's School of Future Media, alongside director Jia Zhangke. The other brings together Wang Hongwei, a veteran filmmaker and artistic director of the project, with young directors Miao Jina and Lyu Bowen, two of the ten winners of last year's Young Shoots Project.

Since its inception, the program has discovered gifted young filmmakers such as Bai Xue, Liang Ming, and Gao Peng, and has helped young creators' shoot over 30 movie projects.
