China Northern wins 39b yuan high-speed rail order

China Northern Locomotive & Rolling Stock Industry (Group) Corp, the country's second biggest locomotive maker, on Monday signed a contract with China's Ministry of Railways to provide the latter with 39.2 billion yuan ($5.73 billion) worth of high-speed rail, Xinhua News Agency reported.

China Northern will provide a new version of China Railway High-speed (CRH), which can run as fast as 350 km per hour, to Ministry of Railway.

The new equipment will be used in the Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway, which is still under construction, in 2011.

China Northern, which also produces mass rapid transit light rails, is one of the two major rail makers in China, with the other being China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co.
