Japanese retailer goes online on Tmall.com

Japanese retailer MUJI launched its e-commerce channel on Tmall.com on Tuesday in Shanghai as it enters fast expansion phase in the Chinese market.

China has become MUJI's most important overseas market, and the retailer expects fast growth in China in the near future, said Wang Wenxin, head of MUJI China's operation.

MUJI, which has opened more than 100 stores across China by June, launched its own e-commerce platform on its website in April last year. Wang said the two platforms, on official website and on Tmall.com, one of China's largest online trading channels, will function together to server various demands of consumers.

“Tmall channel will help us to better access consumers' feedback, which is extremely important for research and developing products and promoting services,” said Wang.

MUJI will pilot tailor-made products based on C2B (customer-to-business) model in China at Tmall.com, said Wang.
