China Telecom plans to speed up broadband access in the capital after the Spring Festival free of charge, according to a source familiar with the issue. All Beijing users will enjoy the enhanced service, and for clients whose broadband speed is 512 KB, it will be accelerated to 1 MB. Existing 1 MB-users will upgrade to 2 MB, and 2 MB will go up to 4 MB. The upgrade will be applied automatically.

ZHANGCHENG: China Telecom plans to speed up broadband? What about China Unicom? I'm wondering why I haven't heard of any plans it has. I still have great hopes that China Unicom's will raise broadband speeds.

LITTLERABBITCANDY: Why does it have to happen after the Spring Festival? I wish it would happen right now.

WGS12315: It appears to me that China's broadband service has hardly been in line with the speed it claims to have. For example, if the agreement with the operator said they should provide a speed of 2 MB, you are lucky if the actual speed does reach 2 MB. This makes me doubtful of the acceleration plan.

SITTINGBYTHEWATER: I'm wondering why some communities have no access to China Telecom in terms of broadband installation. Is there anyone who can offer a reply?

Domestic search engine giant Baidu Inc previously announced that it had started construction of its new office building in Shenzhen that could hold 10,000 employees. The new building is expected to be put to use in 2015. It will be the operational center of Baidu's business in South China as well as the headquarters of its international business, according to the company. Robin Li, chief executive officer of Baidu Inc, said in an official statement that the building will also be a research and development base for mobile Internet technology.

LUBIN_STEVEN: Baidu Inc is going to expand its recruitment again. I think it's good news for people in Shenzhen.

LYCHEELEEE: Oh, that's great. I'm going to graduate in 2015 and Baidu will become my target for job hunting.

PATRICX: In the Internet industry, dramatic change can happen in just three years and it remains unknown whether Baidu Inc will be as successful then as it is now.

MYHEARTFLYFLYFLY: Shenzhen is an innovation hub with tremendous vitality.
