China Telecom plans to speed up broadband access in the capital after the Spring Festival free of charge, according to a source familiar with the issue. All Beijing users will enjoy the enhanced service, and for clients whose broadband speed is 512 KB, it will be accelerated to 1 MB. Existing 1 MB-users will upgrade to 2 MB, and 2 MB will go up to 4 MB. The upgrade will be applied automatically.

Domestic search engine giant Baidu Inc previously announced that it had started construction of its new office building in Shenzhen that could hold 10,000 employees. The new building is expected to be put to use in 2015. It will be the operational center of Baidu's business in South China as well as the headquarters of its international business, according to the company. Robin Li, chief executive officer of Baidu Inc, said in an official statement that the building will also be a research and development base for mobile Internet technology.
