Vegetable prices continue to rise

By ZHOU SIYU | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-04-22 15:07

Vegetable prices continue to rise, according to the latest data.

By April 20, vegetable prices in major cities across the country surged by more than 10 percent from a month earlier, industry data showed.

In the meantime, the price of cooking oil, beef, lamb and fruit registered a moderate fluctuation while prices of dairy products stayed relatively stable, according to data released by the Xinhua News agency, which tracks prices across the country.

Industry analysts said the low price of pork would put downward pressure on the inflation rate in the second quarter, which gives the government more room to stimulate the economy.

But analysts were also worried about the low pork prices, and rising grain prices, damaging their respective sectors.
