BEIJING - A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said here Tuesday that China hopes the United Nations (UN) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) resolutions concerning the Iran nuclear issue could be seriously and comprehensively implemented.

Spokesman Qin Gang made the remarks in a statement responding to reporters' questions about UN Resolution 1803 on the Iran nuclear issue which was adopted on Monday.

The 15-member Security Council adopted Resolution 1803 with a vote of 14-0. Indonesia abstained from endorsing the document, which included travel restrictions and bans for more Iranians, an expansion of asset freezes, curbs on dual-use items, export credit, financial monitoring, cargo inspections on aircraft and vessels, and possible "next steps."

"The resolution is not aimed at punishing Iran, but promoting the resumption of negotiation and thus to reactivate a new round of diplomatic efforts", Qin said in the statement.

"The diplomatic negotiation is the best way to resolve the issue", Qin stressed, adding that the foreign ministers of China, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and Germany already issued a joint statement vowing to strengthen diplomatic efforts to actively promote the resumption of the negotiation by developing some creative approaches.

China calls on the concerned parties to demonstrate their flexibility and find a comprehensive, long-term and appropriate approach in a highly responsible and constructive way to resolve the issue through negotiation at an early date, Qin said in the statement.
