TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso left on Wednesday for a two-day visit to China which is aimed at improving mutual trust between the two countries.

During Aso's visit, he is expected to talk with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Wednesday evening and President Hu Jintao Thursday.

He will exchange views with Chinese leaders on topics such as environment, energy, personnel exchanges, wireless communication, the ongoing international financial crisis, and regional security.

Aso's visit marks the third meeting with Chinese leaders in half a year, which is part of the so-called Japan's "shuttle diplomacy" with its East Asian neighbors.

"The visit is highly meaningful to improve high-level dialogues, strengthen mutual trust and cooperation between China and Japan," said Kazuo Kodama, Press Secretary of the Japanese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
