The two noted the six-party talks remained the most realistic framework and Japan and China should work jointly to bring the talks back on track.

The six-party talks have been stalled since December over ways to verify Pyongyang's nuclear activities.

The two sides also agreed while implementing the United Nations' resolution on Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), peaceful approaches should be applied to settle the problems to maintain stability on the peninsula.

Wu is visiting Japan as part of a four-nation trip which has already taken him to Russia and the United States. He will head to South Korea after leaving Japan on Sunday.
