Chinese police confiscated 5.8 tons of heroin, 1.3 tons of opium, 6.6 tons of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice", 5.3 tons of ketamine, 8.7 tons of marijuana and 1.06 million ecstacy pills last year, according to the annual report on drug control released by NNCC.

Chinese police cracked down on 77,000 cases of drug-related crimes and detained 91,000 criminal suspects last year, it said.

The report also showed that some 173,000 drug addicts were forced to receive treatment in 2009 while 68,000 former addicts had stayed off drugs for more than three years.

NNCC has been releasing annual report on drug control since 1998 and this year's report is the 12th of the kind.
