HONG KONG - Incumbent Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Donald Tsang and Chief Executive-elect Leung Chun-ying met on Monday, and agreed on key elements of transition.

Tsang said after the meeting that one of his remaining tasks is to ensure a smooth transition of administration. The Office of the Chief Executive-elect has been set up to help Leung to form his new administration.

"I am sure in the months ahead, my office, the Chief Executive's Office, as well as the Office of the Chief Executive-elect, will ensure all these tasks will be well performed," he said.

He pledged that Leung would receive maximum support from himself and his team.

He said the election process had been smooth, underlining the success of the principle of "One country, Two systems" and "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong".

"It was an important milestone in our constitutional development," he said.

Leung thanked Tsang and paid him respect for his contribution to Hong Kong as Chief Executive.

He also asked Tsang to pass on his gratitude to all government departments and civil servants who were responsible, either directly or indirectly, for the election's smooth organization.

He said he would work hard to ensure that the transition will work well in the next few months. ?

Leung Chun-ying, former convenor of the Non-Official Members of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, was officially declared the winner of the election of the fourth-term Chief Executive on Sunday.

Returning Officer Justice Poon Shiu-chor announced that of the 1,132 votes cast by members of the 1,200-member Election Committee, Leung Chun-ying won 689 votes. ?

Leung will take office on July 1, 2012 for a five-year term.
