Beijing to improve sanitation standards

By Xu Wei (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2012-09-07 15:53

Beijing will launch cleaning actions between Sept 20 and 27 as part of a campaign to brace for the National Day on Oct 1, local authorities said.

Cleaning actions in Tiananmen Square will be conducted 24 hours a day according to strict sanitation standards.

Residential alleys and underground passages citywide will be another key area for the campaign, the Beijing Municipal Commission of City Administration and Environment said.

Other major sanitation areas will include pedestrian overpasses, parks, subway and railway stations and public toilets.

Illegal paper notices on buildings and walls will also be targeted, while checks around construction sites will be increased to reduce air pollution.
